Loveland Pass Summertime Sunset Engagement Photos in the Colorado Rocky Mountains

This past summer, I traveled out to Loveland Pass (one of my all-time favorite locations) to capture Ian and Erika’s engagement photos! Originally, we were supposed to do their engagement photos in the foothills but because of the wildfires near their original photoshoot location we last minute had to move their session farther out in the mountains to avoid the smoke-filled air and sky. Honestly, I’ll never complain about a last-minute change of location to Loveland Pass because it’s really that good and for this specific day, we had some of the best weather and views ever. For the first part of the shoot, we hung out around Pass Lake. We had wildflowers blooming everywhere throughout the shoot (which is a Colorado delicacy in the summertime) but the ones near Pass Lake were my favorites! For the second half of their shoot, we drove over to the main parking lot where the most epic views of the mountains are and to catch the beautiful golden light. I captured some of my all-time favorite engagement photos at the very end!

Loveland Pass is personally one of my favorite locations to suggest to couples working with me for engagement sessions. It is a little over an hour drive from Denver (of course if the traffic behaves itself so make sure to always leave early just in case…. I70 if you know, you know!) which is nice because you don’t have to travel too far into the mountains for epic 360 mountain views. And you don’t need a permit to do portrait sessions there which is a plus too! It also looks absolutely STUNNING all 4 seasons so no matter what time of year you schedule your shoot there it is bound to look magical. The weather sometimes can be a little crazy depending on the time of year. You should expect the road and mountain to be covered in snow for at least half of the year. During the summer months, expect some afternoon showers and thunderstorms but don’t worry, they usually pass pretty quickly. On a final note, make sure to bring a coat to keep yourself warm in between photos because it can get quite cold up there since you are at 12,000 ft of elevation.
