Echo Lake Park Engagement Photos | Tyler and Madelyn

Echo Lake Park Wintertime Sunset Engagement Photos in the Colorado Rocky Mountains

Tyler and Madelyn are both huge lovers of all things winter. When they reached out to me, wanted to take their engagement photos in the winter with a snow-covered winter backdrop. We choose Echo Lake Park (one of my favorite locations especially for outdoor winter photo sessions).

For the day of their engagement session, they had a beautiful sunny winter day which thankfully made it not too cold for their engagement session and the lake was coated with a fresh blanket of snow from the night before. We did lots of photos on the frozen lake. At one point, we went over to the side in the trees to do a Champagne pop. And for part of their session, Tyler and Madelyn’s dog Bently joined in! Bently loved being loved on and playing in the snow. At the end of the session, Madelyn decided it would be a fun idea for her and Tyler to lay in the snow and make snow angels.

Echo Lake Park is located just about an hour drive from Denver. It sits at the base of Mt. Blue Sky and it is not too far from Idaho Springs. In the winter, because it sits at 10,600 ft above sea level Echo Lake is frozen over and covered in snow. Right behind the lake is a pine tree covered backdrop with a mountain view. To the sides, there are trails with lots of beautiful spots for photos in the trees. Another thing that is very nice is that for groups under 5 people, a photo permit is not needed to do a photoshoot at Echo Lake which makes it especially a great spot for mountain engagement photos.

If you want to do a winter engagement session I recommend doing the following to make sure you have the best experience! 1.) Dress weather appropriately! It can get VERY cold at Echo Lake, especially on days when it is not sunny or when the sun starts to go down. Bring a warm sweater or layers, winter jackets, gloves, hats, hand and foot warmers, scarves and boots. 2.) Plan for the weather and watch the road conditions. Every time I have been up to Echo Lake in the winter the roads are usually pretty plowed but just in case if the weather is calling for snow or there was snow the day or night before your session, definitely plan to leave early just in case.

I had such a great time capturing both Madelyn and Tyler! I can’t wait for more winter sessions up at Echo Lake Park!
